FaZe and Spirit secure Spodek spot at IEM Katowice 2024.

The group stages of IEM Katowice 2024 are currently well underway, with the first few teams already securing places for next week’s Spodek Arena playoffs. We watched another six matches. Some matches were for glory, others were just for survival in Katowice. Here are all the highlights you need to know about the latest day of competitive CS2 mayhem.

FaZe edge over Eternal Fire

FaZe became the biggest name to secure a playoff spot after beating Eternal Fire 2-1 at IEM Katowice 2024. Not only did Eternal Fire take one map, they also took another into overtime, where the Turkish squad easily won 2-0. It’s a shame that the third map in the series turned out to be such an antithesis, with FaZe making short work of Eternal Fire in Nuke to confirm the series.

On an individual level, there were many positives for both teams. It was a particularly strong performance on the FaZe side, with Eternal Fire’s Wicadia continuing to show why he’s one of the hottest prospects in all of Counter-Strike right now. Eternal Fire now faces NAVI, and I think if they push like they did today against FaZe, they will come out on top.

Spirit was the first to secure a spot in the IEM Katowice 2024 playoffs on this day. The latest team to be shaken up was Complexity, with the 17-year-old rifleman putting in another top performance as they won the series comfortably 2-0. Both magixx and sh1ro have had similarly impressive series, but anyone on the Complexity side will be disappointed with what’s shown here. floppy and Grim are particularly underperforming.

Now, with the Spirit facing FaZe in their next match, there is a real chance they can make a run for the trophy. The atmosphere at Spodek Arena will be unlike anything some players have experienced before. This will determine how far Spirit can go at IEM Katowice 2024.

NAVI and the Falcons are alive

In terms of teams trying to survive throughout the IEM Katowice 2024 group stage, NAVI and the Falcons are on the last chance bar. But they live to fight another day after today’s showdown. The first was NAVI, who secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Apeks. There is still a lot of work to be done, but jL and w0nderful’s performance is a particularly positive factor in working together for the remainder of the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Falcons had a tough game against Polish team Rebels. For this All-Star roster, going a long way with such an unknown quantity is undoubtedly a disappointing result. The biggest concern is AWPer SunPayus, which has been struggling to find its place ever since the launch of CS2. One day he may be able to fight further, but Falcon needs quick improvement if he is to win the big prize at IEM Katowice 2024.
