Did the Dota 2 game coordinator come home from work today? checking way

Valve maintains a Dota 2 game coordinator to ensure uninterrupted gameplay, including matchmaking and live game viewing. So, if you see a red notification at the top of the Dota 2 menu that says “Searching for Game Coordinator,” that’s a sign that you’ll soon be unable to play the MOBA.

What does a Dota 2 Game Coordinator do?

Valve frequently updates and optimizes Coordinator to improve player experience. However, players may not be able to join queues or watch live games while the update is ongoing. These outages are usually short and not a cause for concern, but there are instances where the coordinator’s downtime can be prolonged.

This leaves players wondering if the problem is with their computer or on Valve’s side. If players suspect their coordinator is down, it’s important to remember that Valve does not provide an official tool or website for checking the status. Nonetheless, players can access several third-party applications and websites to check the status of their coordinator.

Check status through ‘Steam Status’

One of the most reliable ways to check the status of your Dota 2 game coordinator is to use the ‘Unofficial Steam Status’ feature provided by the SteamDB website. This tool allows players to quickly check if their coordinator is working.

The Steam Status page receives real-time updates, with a ‘Healthy’ status indicating that the Dota 2 Game Coordinator is operating without issues. To find the status, users can scroll down on the Steam Status page to see the current status. If the Coordinator encounters an issue, the site may display errors such as ‘NotLoggedOn’, ‘HTTP Error 503’, or ‘Unknown’, indicating a service outage.

Still can’t find a Dota 2 match?

Dota 2 Game Coordinator appears to be working with the Steam Community, but if matchmaking is still not successful, players should check their local server status. By choosing a server in a different region, players can bypass local outages, albeit with potentially higher ping. This workaround allows you to play in a different region and, although not ideal, may only meet players from that region once.

Therefore, we do not recommend finding matches in these scenarios as you will be disconnected and unable to rejoin. And this could potentially lead to giving up or even more severe MMR loss.

It’s also worth noting that all Steam services, including the Dota 2 Game Coordinator, undergo regular maintenance every Tuesday from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Central Time. This maintenance period typically lasts approximately 10 minutes, after which most server and community functionality will be restored.

In short, although Valve regularly updates its coordinator for optimal performance, players will occasionally encounter downtime. During such periods, third party sites such as SteamDB will be our go-to site to check the status of the Coordinator to ensure we are kept up to date. Meanwhile, you can find alternative MOBAs to use during Dota 2 downtime, such as Dota 2 vs. LoL.
